Abstract

The availability of timely and accurate agricultural data is the foundation for realizing agricultural policies that are right on target. Since 2018, BPS has collaborated with the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) which has now merged into the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (Ministry of ATR/ BPN), as well as the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) are trying to improve the methodology for calculating rice harvest area through the application of objective measurements by utilizing advances in information and communication technology and the availability of high resolution satellite imagery. This collaboration was realized in an activity entitled "Integrated Food Crop Agricultural Statistics Data Collection Using the Area Sample Frame (KSA) Method" or better known as the KSA Survey. The implementation of the KSA Survey for rice commodities began to be implemented nationally in 2018. Field observations of the KSA Survey were carried out on the last 7 (seven) days of each month. Based on the results of the KSA Survey, in 2022, the rice harvest area in North Kalimantan will reach around 8.60 thousand hectares or a decrease of 0.28 thousand hectares (3.12 percent) compared to 2021. Meanwhile, rice production in 2022 will amount to 30.53 thousand tons of GKG. If converted into rice, rice production in 2022 will reach around 18.10 thousand tons, or an increase of 0.33 thousand tons (1.89 percent) compared to rice production in 2021. Apart from producing an estimate of the harvested area, the KSA Survey also provides a related picture. other rice phases, such as the area of early vegetative, late vegetative, generative phases, the potential for crop failure, the area of agricultural land fallow, and the area of agricultural land planted with crops other than rice.
