Abstract

  • Micro Small Establishment (MSE) has a very important role in the driving force-leadership in Kalimantan Utara Province. MSE has a role as the basis for populist economic development.
  • The percentage of MSEs in Kalimantan Utara Province reached 98.09 percent of the total number of non-agricultural businesses received in Kalimantan Utara Province. Tarakan Municipality has the highest number of MSEs in Kalimantan Utara Province, with the proportion of MSEs reaching around 37.98 percent of total MSEs in Kalimantan Utara Province.
  • The data of Economic Census 2016-Continued provide information that MSEs have absorbed more than 129 thousand, or 71.76 percent of non-agricultural workforce in Kalimantan Utara Province. Absorption of MSE Workers Occurs More by Category of Wholesale and Retail Trade, Repair of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles Establishment (category G), namely more than 52 thousand workers or reaching 40.49 percent of the total workforce in non-agricultural MSEs.
  • Management of MSEs in Kalimantan Utara Province is still done simply. This concerns the proportion of establishments that have a business entity status that has not reached 90 percent. The majority of MSEs also do not use computers. Likewise with the use of the internet, only about 11 percent of MSEs have been issued that have utilized the internet network.
  • From the results of Economic Census 2016-Continued, 21.66 percent of MSE workers were unpaid / family workers. Other data representing female MSEs are 45.09 percent. In terms of the highest education attainment, around 33.63 percent of MSE entrepreneurs only have high school education equivalent, at most among other education levels. Based on the results of the Economic Census 2016-Continued, there are almost 25 percent of the number of non-agricultural MSEs that do not have a temporary business satisfied while having ease in carrying out their business. Most of the funds issued by MSE entrepreneurs are in terms of capital / liquidity and the amount of interest is 46.66 percent.
