Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has an impact on human development in Kalimantan Utara Province. This can be seen from the decline in the Human Development Index (HDI) in 2020. Previously, during the 2013-2019 period, the HDI figures continued to increase from year to year. However, the HDI figure in 2020 fell 0.52 points to 70.63.
  • The decline in HDI in 2020 was strongly influenced by the decrease in average adjusted per capita expenditure. This indicator decreased from 9.34 million rupiah in 2019 to 8.76 million rupiah in 2020.
  • In terms of education, children who are 7 years old in 2020 have the hope of enjoying education for 12.93 years (almost equivalent to the education period for completing Diploma I), 0.09 years longer than those of the same age in 2019. In addition, the average length of schooling for residents aged 25 years and over is still increasing by 0.06 years, from 8.94 years in 2019 to 9.00 years in 2020.
  • In terms of health, babies born in 2020 have the expectation to live up to 72.59 years, 0.05 years longer than those born the previous year.
