Abstract

• Out of 82 cities monitoring national CPI, in July 2018, 30 cities experienced inflation and 52 other cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tarakan City by 0.62 percent and the lowest inflation occurred in Medan City
and Padangsidimpuan each at 0.01 percent. Whereas the highest deflation occurred in Bau-bau city at -2.49 percent and the lowest in Jember City at -0.01 percent.
• The inflation rate of Tarakan in August 2018 was 0.62 percent with the calendar year inflation rate of 3.28 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate of 3.33 percent.
• Inflation in Tarakan City is influenced by the price index in almost all expenditure groups. The housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group experienced inflation of 1.32 percent, the foodstuff group by 0.73 percent, the transportation and communication group which experienced inflation of 0.33 percent followed by the health group by 0.22 percent, clothing group by 0.18 percent and the education, recreation and sports group experienced inflation by 0.14 percent. For finished food groups,
drinks, cigarettes and tobacco generally tend to be stable with changes of 0.00 percent.
